On Monday, November 21, 2016, our beloved colleague Dr. George Thomas Poe passed away suddenly. He was actively teaching in the fall semester, so this took everyone by surprise.

Tom ventured into death the way that he lived

Tom ventured into death the way that he lived--with enthusiasm and joy--as he welcomed his guests at St. Luke's Hospice in his final days. His impact on students and the department over his decades at UMKC will not be forgotten. For more insight into his life from students, visit the U-News, and on the community, visit KCUR.

The memorial will be at his church, Trinity United Methodist, 620 E. Armour Blvd., Kansas City, MO on Sunday December 11th at 2:00. More details are available in his obituary.

To make a memorial gift in honor of Dr. Poe, his sister, Phyllis, has requested that contributions be made first to the UMKC Department of Communication Studies Film and Media Production Facilities Campaign.

Other options include the G. Tom Poe Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in Film and Media Arts or a social justice organization of your choice. Donations to UMKC can be made online: Please enter your preference in the "Other designations or details" box.

If you prefer to send a check in honor of Dr. Poe, send it to:
