Graduate Travel Funding
The Dean of the Graduate School has re-implemented funding for travel for graduate students. Details are provided here.
There are multiple sources for funding and are provided in this order:
1) IDSC – Interdisciplinary Doctoral Student Council
You must be presenting at the conference, stay at the conference hotel, and present receipts.
The IDSC votes on whether you will receive funding. Max allotments are $500 per student per year.
Deadlines for Applications are:
September 21, 2012
November 2, 2012
February 8, 2013
2) SGS – School of Graduate Studies
You must be presenting at the conference, stay at the conference hotel, and keep receipts. This is a “matching grant” source of funding. That is, they will only match funding from the department and only up to $300, provided that your costs are over $600. This means you can only access this source of funding if the department funds your travel. Application must be submitted one month prior to your departure date.
3) Get Matching Funds from Department
4) SAFC – Student Activity Fee Council
You must be presenting at the conference, stay at the conference hotel, and keep receipts. The SAFC votes on whether you will receive funding. Max allotments are capped at $800 per student per year. Forms must be submitted five weeks before travel and one week before an SAFC meeting. SAFC meetings are every two weeks starting Sep. 10th. They are at 6 p.m. in the student union. You must defend your request on your own behalf.
5) UMKC Economics Club
The Econ Club received more funding than usual in its annual budget. This can be a source of travel funding if the club as a council so chooses and will be something that will voted upon at regular meetings. Another important reason to be a member of the Economics Club and attend meetings!
