Dual-Credit Digital Program
HSCP/Digital Program (formerly VSI) is an interactive course delivery system that is used in a variety of educational settings. One popular use offers high school students dual-credit courses that insure content mastery as students develop and refine reasoning and learning skills. In HSCP/DP dual-credit courses, high school students are enrolled in a video-based section of the college course. A trained facilitator, typically a high school teacher, assumes the role of master learner and facilitator. The facilitator regulates the flow of information to the learner, stopping and starting the video as needed. Facilitators verify that students have comprehended one idea before moving on to the next. Specially developed manuals and internet resources, if available, serve to supplement the lectures and serve as enrichment activities.
HSCP/DP is presently used in a number of high schools throughout Missouri. HSCP/DP courses have been used as honors programs to bridge high school students into higher education. The data collected over the years reveal that high school students perform at levels that are comparable to regularly admitted college students.
HSCP/DP methodology is based upon Supplemental Instruction (SI), an academic enrichment and achievement program developed at UMKC in 1973. The U.S. Department of Education certified that SI is the only reviewed program that both improves student academic achievement and graduation rates. UMKC has trained faculty and staff from more than 1000 post-secondary institutions, high schools, and community centers to implement SI and HSCP/DP.
