Welcome to the UMKC chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS).
Membership in our chapter of SPS is free and open to any student at UMKC. We are one of nearly 700 chapters in colleges and universities in the United States.
11/11/2015 - Youth Football Team Make and Take
Today, SPS members met with members of Professor Caruso's youth football team to talk about science and make make and takes.
11/09/2015 - Brushless Motors
SPS members gathered today to make brushless motors and discuss matters of business. The Hall effect sensor triggers the transistor which make and breaks the current and the magnet close to the Hall sensor causes the transistor to turn on. There will also be a scientific writing class on Wednesday 11/11/2015 @ 1PM. Below are some pictures from the meeting:
10/26/2015 - Magnetic Levitation
Today, SPS members met to discuss matters of business and to build a make and take that demonstrates magnetic levitation. The apparatus hovers a small piece of graphite over four aligned magnets. Some of the upcoming events and business discussed are:
- Discussed upcoming demo for NSBE group (this Saturday, Nov 7th 10:30 AM in the SPS office located in the physics study room)
- Next week: make and takes with Dr. Caruso's youth football team (next Wednesday, Nov 11th 6:00 PM in Flarsheim 247)
- Tomahawk Elementary science night (January 29th)
